The Essential Basics of Backgammon Strategies – Part 2
Wednesday, 5. June 2024
As we have dicussed in the last article, Backgammon is a casino game of ability and luck. The goal is to move your chips safely around the board to your inside board while at the same time your opposition shifts their chips toward their inner board in the opposing direction. With competing player pieces heading in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the requirement for specific strategies at specific times. Here are the two final Backgammon tactics to finish off your game.
The Priming Game Plan
If the aim of the blocking tactic is to slow down the opponent to move her checkers, the Priming Game strategy is to completely barricade any activity of the opposing player by constructing a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get hit, or result a bad position if he at all attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be established anyplace between point 2 and point 11 in your board. As soon as you’ve successfully built the prime to prevent the activity of your opponent, your competitor does not even get to roll the dice, and you move your pieces and toss the dice yet again. You’ll be a winner for sure.
The Back Game Strategy
The aims of the Back Game plan and the Blocking Game technique are similar – to hurt your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your chances of succeeding, but the Back Game technique uses different tactics to do that. The Back Game strategy is frequently employed when you are far behind your competitor. To compete in Backgammon with this plan, you need to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This tactic is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon because it requires careful movement of your checkers and how the pieces are moved is partly the outcome of the dice toss.
