For example, Greece grabbed a hold of the game and called it by the name "bac gamen." From there, the English adopted backgammon in the 1600’s and have remained with it ever since. Backgammon and other ancient games weren’t ever accepted by most churches. The religious believe that the game was the work of Beelzebub. This caused clergy to blacklist and destroy the game. The blacklisting and burning had never prevent people wagering on games and being entertained.
